We at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park are delighted to announce that from 2nd January 2019 there
is a 25p charge for every disposable cup used when purchasing a hot drink from our
onsite Woodland Café. Guests using their own cups or using the ceramic mugs provided will
not be subject to the additional charge.
The decision to charge for disposable cups at the Park follows the Government’s proposed
‘Latte Levy’. Last year MPs declared that throwaway cups should be banned by 2023
as an estimated 2.5 billion cups are taken to landfill each year. Since the beginning of 2019,
other coffee shops around the UK such as; Boston Tea Party, Starbucks, Pret a Manger and Greggs have
introduced a charge for their disposable cups.
Oliver Smith, Woodland Café catering manager says of the initiative; “we are always looking
for ways to reduce our waste at Avon Valley and we feel encouraging our guests to enjoy a
hot drink in a reusable cup is a great start. With this initiative in place, we envisage saving
around 33,000 disposable cups going to landfill every year”.
Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park strives to continually reduce its waste and
welcomes ideas from its guests into future recycling options.
