The Ruth Strauss Foundation (charity number 1183221) supports families facing the death of a parent to cancer, and is driving the need for more research in non-smoking lung cancers.  The charity has a dual mission:

  • Family Mission: To ensure that every family with a child facing the death of a parent is offered the professional emotional support they need to prepare the family for the future.
  • Research Mission: To facilitate collaboration and influence research in the fight against non-smoking lung cancers, so that together we find the causes sooner and improve outcomes.

Avon Valley’s Douglas family have a close link to this charity as it has recently supported the family of Doug’s lifelong friend Rob Collingwood.  Rob was at university with both Doug and Hannah following which Doug and Rob served in the Army together. Rob went on to fly the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and was regularly seen flying over Avon Valley on his way to Bristol Hospital. Sadly Rob was diagnosed with non-smoking lung cancer and passed away in April 2023.  Rob’s wife Hattie and their children Thomas and Lulu have been supported by the Ruth Strauss Foundation (charity number 1183221) and we hope we can raise some money to help them continue to support families who have lost a partner or parent.

Fancy Dress

Let your imagination run wild! We've a few ideas to get you started.

Spring Fling: Embrace the season with costumes that celebrate spring. Think flowers, bees, butterflies, and everything bright and beautiful.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party: Inspired by "Alice in Wonderland," this theme can include a wide range of characters from the story or any whimsical, eccentric attire that would be at home at the Mad Hatter's tea table.

Animal Parade: Beyond the Easter bunny, celebrate all spring animals by dressing up as chicks, lambs, frogs, or any other creature that signifies spring.

Garden Party: Think of costumes that reflect the beauty of a garden in spring, such as flowers, gardeners, insects, and even garden gnomes.

Mythical Creatures & Enchanted Beings: Let imaginations run wild with costumes of unicorns, dragons, fairies, and other mythical beings.

DJ

Our DJ will be on the deck bar spinning some cracking beats!
